Dear Sam and friends in the Microcredit Summit

By Saturday 4 August, 2007 Neighbourhood 5 in our new Kaputiei town was an impressive sight. 75 houses are already roofed with our red roofing tiles. Out of those 75 a total of 40 houses are now having the floors done and production of doors and windows has started on site. 90 houses are ready for roofing and the roof trusses are already being produced on site. The remaining 81 houses are ready for the ringbeam to be produced. Thus whichever road you walk in neighbourhood 5 you now see all the 246 houses and you can imagine what the entire neighbourhood will look like when the families will move in at the end of August.

The big earthmoving machines have started the work to excavate the soil for the roads and the house foundations in neighbourhood 6 which is the second neighbourhood we will construct. The mason teams will move to neighbourhood 6 to start house construction from Monday 13 August. In the meantime they are assisting with the construction of the opening ponds of the constructed wetland. They will construct the screening chamber which is 6 m by 25 m, the balancing pond which is 20 m by 60 m and the two Gravel Hydroponic Beds that both are 36 m by 144 m. These are all works that involve concrete walls and floors.

Our project is generating a lot of excitement among our members and in the local community. Even many of the old enemies have changed their minds and have become positive supporters.

I am happy to send you some photos from Kaputiei taken by Gabriel Kadidi on 7 August 2007. Attached is also a list of the photos with explanatory text. Kadidi is our information officer who was born and raised in the Kibera slum.

Warm regards
Ingrid Munro
